Get the Facts: 2025-26 School Budget

Now that the New York State budget has been approved, the district would like to take this opportunity to update the community on its state aid allocation for the upcoming 2025-26 school year. Because the state budget was not approved until late in the process, the district had to rely on preliminary state estimates when developing its own budget for the upcoming year. Fortunately, those estimates proved to be accurate and aligned closely with the final state aid figures.

The aid amount reported in a recent Newsday article notes that Garden City is slated to receive an increase in state aid of approximately 10%. This figure is misleading, however, as it includes funding designated for the Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) program. This funding is restricted and cannot be used to support the general school budget. Including this aid in the total figure is misleading and does not accurately reflect the funds available for operating expenses.
