Dear Garden City School Community,

It’s hard to believe the school year ends tomorrow! Our students are no doubt excited for summer adventures to begin. Before we head into the break, I want to share a few reflections and some important updates with you.

Summer Learning Resources

Our Summer Learning Resources are now available on the district website. These tools are a great way to help students stay engaged and curious over the summer. I encourage you to take a look—you’ll find a mix of meaningful and fun activities to explore.

Summer Construction

Several important construction projects will be underway across the district this summer. As part of our bond projects, construction on the high school additions will begin with demolition and foundation work, continuing through September 2026. Work on the high school athletic fields will also begin and is expected to continue into the fall.

Air conditioning upgrades in the cafeterias at the Middle School, Stewart, and Stratford are progressing well, with most of the interior work now complete. Additional projects scheduled for completion by September include air conditioning for primary classrooms, an added parking lot at Stewart, cement repairs at the bus garage, and the replacement of high school gym bleachers and the divider curtain.

A full facilities update will be shared at the August Board of Education meeting.

Universal Pre-K

Please note that for families with children eligible for the Universal Prekindergarten program, the district still has a limited number of seats available at its Harbor Child Care Roslyn (Shelter Rock) location. Children who turn 4 years old on or before Dec. 1, 2025, and are eligible to start kindergarten in September 2026 may apply for the available UPK seats. Visit the district’s website for more information.

Appreciation

As we close the year, I want to express my deepest appreciation to the educators and staff members who are retiring. Your dedication has touched the lives of so many students and families. You leave behind a legacy of care, commitment, and impact, and we wish you all the best in this next chapter.

I also want to thank Board of Education Vice President Arthur Gnecco and Trustee William O’Donohue as they complete their service on the Board. Their leadership has guided us through important decisions, and their work has helped shape the continued progress of our schools.

To our incredible staff and faculty—thank you for your hard work, creativity, and deep care for our students. To our parents and guardians—thank you for your continued partnership. Our school community is stronger because of the collaboration between home and school.

A special thank you to our parent groups—PTA, SEPTA, Boosters (formerly TMA), and all the Friends of groups. Your time, generosity, and ongoing support continue to make a tremendous difference in the lives of our students and the district.

Looking Ahead

As we prepare to celebrate the Class of 2025 at graduation this Saturday, we reflect on all they’ve accomplished. Whether they’re heading to college, the military, or into the workforce, we send them off with our full support and pride. And wherever life may lead, they will always have a home here in Garden City.

A Look Back

I invite you to take a few moments to watch this short video that highlights just a few of the memories we’ve made together this year. It’s a small glimpse into what made this school year so special.

Wishing you a summer filled with rest, joy, and time with those who matter most. Thank you, again, for all you do to support our students, our schools, and one another.

Sincerely,

Kusum
