Garden City student places second in PBS Writing Project

Garden City’s Stratford Avenue third grader Celine Lu, a student in Ms. Kelly McDonnell’s class, earned second place in the PBS Writing Project for her piece, “Save the Bird!”
The Buffalo Toronto Public Media PBS KIDS Writers Contest is an annual regional competition that invites students in kindergarten through third grade to create and submit original stories and illustrations. Designed to support creativity, literacy and self-expression, entries are judged by grade level on elements such as originality, storytelling and illustration. The contest is part of the broader PBS KIDS Writers Contest, which is hosted by local PBS stations nationwide.
As a top finisher, Celine has been recognized for her creativity and strong storytelling and will attend a special celebration event in Buffalo on May 14 honoring this year’s winners.
