Garden City fourth and fifth graders participate in annual FLEStival

On March 25, fourth and fifth grade students and their families from Stratford Avenue School and Stewart School gathered for the Family FLEStival, held at Stratford. The event highlighted students’ experiences in the Foreign Language in Elementary School program, where they have been learning Spanish, and provided an opportunity to demonstrate their creativity and progress.
Guests were welcomed by a wonderful performance from the Stewart and Stratford orchestras before moving into the night’s activities. Families explored a range of student work, including posters, artwork and digital projects that demonstrated students’ language skills through videos and interactive displays.
The evening also included hands-on activities such as a student puppet show completed in Spanish, FLES bingo, arts and crafts and read-alouds led by high school students.
The FLEStival allowed students to demonstrate their Spanish skills, invited families to take part in the learning experience and brought the school community together to honor the role of language education.
