Garden City student awarded prestigious Spanish travel scholarship

Garden City High School junior Julia La Monica has been selected as a recipient of a prestigious travel abroad scholarship from the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, recognizing her achievement and dedication to Spanish language study.
The competitive Junior Travel Study Abroad Scholarship honors students who demonstrate strong language proficiency and a commitment to learning about Spanish-speaking cultures. La Monica earned the award through a rigorous application process that included an essay, teacher recommendation and a video submission.
“Julia has consistently shown outstanding dedication and enthusiasm for learning Spanish,” said her teacher, Mr. Berg. “Her curiosity, work ethic and passion for language and culture make her a perfect fit for this incredible opportunity.”
Through this scholarship, La Monica will travel to Salamanca, Spain, over the summer to take 20 hours of Spanish language instruction at the University of Salamanca and participate in local tours.
