Garden City High School inducts 116 new members into the World Language Honor Society

On March 3, Garden City High School welcomed 116 students into its German, Italian, Latin and Spanish chapters of the World Language Honor Society. The organization recognizes high-achieving students who demonstrate excellence in the study of world languages and cultures while maintaining strong academic records and showing leadership, character and a commitment to service.
The ceremony began with a greeting and opening remarks from WLHS president Gabriella Tromba before student and inductee Olivia Vendetti sang the national anthem. Garden City High School Principal Kevin Steingruebner and World Language Coordinator Victoria Buonpane offered congratulatory remarks to the inductees and their gratitude to the world language teachers and honor society advisers.
Inductees then recited the WLHS oath in their respective languages and were called up by their chapter’s presidents to receive their certificates of initiation.
The number of inductees across the various honor societies reflects a strong dedication to language studies. Congratulations to the following:
- German Honor Society: 1 new inductee, advised by Mrs. Basile
- Italian Honor Society: 56 new inductees, advised by Mr. D'Ambrosio
- Latin Honor Society: 13 new inductees, advised by Mrs. Durkin
- Spanish Honor Society: 46 new inductees, advised by Mrs. Gutiérrez
