Garden City High School students shine at Boston University’s Model United Nations Conference

During the weekend of Feb. 7, students from Garden City High School took part in Boston University’s prestigious Model United Nations Conference where they joined 2,000 peers from across the United States. GCHS students participated in 10 diverse committees, representing various nations and perspectives while working collaboratively to address global challenges.
The conference began with an inspiring keynote address by Youssef Chahed, the former prime minister of Tunisia, who was instrumental in bringing democratic change to the country during the Arab Spring. He urged tomorrow's leaders to engage with issues they are passionate about and strive for meaningful change. Throughout the weekend, students delivered speeches, defended their positions, negotiated with fellow delegates, drafted and revised resolutions and voted on proposed solutions.
At one of the largest Model UN Conferences in the nation, Garden City High School had an impressive five award winners: Amanat Jain (The Phoenix of South America, Colombia 1958), Tiffany Zhang (United Nations Climate Change Conference 2025, Biodiversity Loss), Rebecca Chau (Food And Agriculture Organization; Illegal Fishery Practices) and Chloe Linand and Erica Egor (The Sixth Committee; Cyber Warfare).
Over the course of the three days, GCHS students forged new friendships and enhanced their critical thinking, leadership and problem-solving skills.
