Middle School students share school updates & interactive displays at board of education meeting

On Jan. 13, Garden City Middle School students and staff shared updates with the Garden City Board of Education through presentations, discussions and hands-on demonstrations.
The evening began with a presentation by Garden City Middle School Principal Edward Escobar, who discussed the importance of teaming and collaboration in supporting student success. He highlighted key areas, including students’ social and emotional development, instructional practices, learning environments — with an emphasis on distraction-free learning and purposeful technology use — as well as academic supports and interventions, curriculum and program offerings, student engagement, clubs and the transition to and from middle school.
Next, six student ambassadors spoke about their clubs, academics and lessons learned both inside and outside the classroom, sharing their perspectives on the middle school experience. Students reflected on how they have grown as learners and as individuals.
The evening concluded with a gallery walk, during which parents, board members and central administrators explored student work, including stop-motion projects, hands-on STEM explorations, ELA project-based learning, social studies podcasts and theater arts electives.
The evening highlighted the wide range of opportunities and experiences available at Garden City Middle School and offered a meaningful glimpse into the student experience. GCMS and the Garden City School District continue to be places where students are supported, challenged and encouraged to grow and thrive.
