You MUST leave your name at the bottom of your post.
In your reaction try to give your personal opinion about how reading the material changed any views you may have had. Did you agree/disagree? Why? Can you add to the general idea the article highlights? Does it inspire any thoughtful questions of your own?
You can also reply to other comments that fellow students post, however please remember to be open-minded and respectful of other people’s opinions.
    Some areas to consider:
    • Should schools be responsible for diagnosing mental disorders? If not then who?
    • Do you think this could help decrease incidences of school shootings, violence in schools or attempted suicide?
    • Who should be responsible for financing the expensive programs used to diagnose possible mental disorders?
    • Why would school districts not want to be held responsible for both the financial cost and the implication of these programs?
    • Do you think this could lead to issues such as over diagnosis or stigmatizing students with having a 'mental disorder'?

Current Event 12: Study: Parents who give their teens alcohol are inviting trouble

Read the article and answer the following questions:

    1. Do you see a lot of underage drinking in Garden City? If so, where is the drinking occuring (at homes with parents are present, at homes while parents are out, while teens are out...etc)

    2. Why do you think that some teens decide to drink?

    3. What is your opinion on parents providing their children with alcohol?  Support your opinion.

    4. Research shows that 3 out of 4 teens say their parents are leading influences on their decisions about drinking.  Do you feel your parents influence your decisions about drinking? Why or why not?

    5. Do you believe the drinking age should be lowered in the United States, similar to that of Europe? Why or why not?
