    Elementary Library Volunteer Instructions

Thank you for volunteering this year to help keep our library neat and in working order.  All of the library books are ordered on the shelves by the spine label so that we may find books and shelve books. The spine label tells what section and where in that section a book belongs.

The library is divided into four sections:

Fiction- The spine label of these books have an “F” and then the Author’s last name on them. For example (F Dahl). These books are placed on the shelf in alphabetical order by the author’s last name, the name on the spine label.  The Fiction Section in the library starts behind the checkout desk on the wall and continues on the window side. Only books with an “F” on the spine label are on the fiction shelves.

Easy- The spine label of these books have an “E” and then the Author’s last name. For example (E Willems). These books are placed on the shelf in alphabetical order by the author’s last name, the name on the spine label. The Easy section of the library starts behind the arches on the wall side. Only books with an “E” on the spine label are on the easy shelves.

Biography-The spine label of these books have a “B” and then the last name of the person the book is about on them. For example (B Washington). These books are placed on the shelf in alphabetical order by the person’s last name (the name on the spine label). In the library the Biography section is in the back part of the library in the farthest back corner on the wall side. Only books with a “B” on the spine label are on the biography shelves.

Non-Fiction- The spine label of these books have a NUMBER and the Author’s last name on them. For example (398.2 Aesop). These books are placed on the shelf in numerical order and then by the author’s last name within that numerical group. In the library the Non-Fiction section is in the back part of the library starting behind the arches on the window side. Only books with a number on the spine are on the non-fiction shelves.

    Thank you!
