    Catching/Handling

    Goal keeper attacks ground balls cleanly, using a scooping or smothering technique. Player can catch at all heights (basket catch, high or medium contour). Goal keeper can tip, single-hand punch, two-hand punch and deflect when appropriate. Ball is secure and does not bobble when caught. Goalkeeper does not exhibit stress under pressure.

     

    Positioning

    Goal keeper is always in a ready position, off the line. Goal keeper approaches attackers at angles, shows effectiveness at narrowing. Goal keeper has the ability to read and anticipate crossed balls or corner kicks and position herself appropriately. Goal keeper can effectively judge the incoming of a lofted ball and does not allow the ball to go over her head in the open field.

     

    Diving

    Goal keeper can dive to the left and to the right to deflect or catch a shot. Player shows willingness to extension dive to posts.

     

    Distribution

    Player can execute various ways to distribute the ball. Player can feed to feet by kick, throw, roll or punt. Goal keeper can execute a midfield punt or clear, and can throw 15-30 yards. Goal keeper is not afraid to play with her feet and carry the ball herself by dribbling. Goalie is decisive when distributing.

     

    Game Sense/Game Play

    Goal keeper anticipates and predicts the oncoming offense and strategic attack. Goalie executes aggressive play by coming off of line and out of the box when necessary. Goalie is not afraid to join the defense and receive a pass back. Goalie is calm when receiving the ball and redistributing it. Goalie is decisive when distributing as to initiate attack. Goalie communicates with team.

     

    Fitness

    Goal keeper has fast feet. Goalie can maintain game speed for long periods of time. Goalie does not fatigue after a series of dives or distributions. Goalie exhibits quick reaction time and reflex speed. Goalie is explosive and agile.
