The Garden City School District was recently notified of a change to New York State Education Law in accordance with the Commissioner’s Regulation 136.1-136.3 effective 7/1/18. The change effectively revises grade levels for physicals and mandated screenings. Therefore, any child entering school for the first time, or entering kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th grades must have a physical examination within 12 months of school entrance. Any physical performed by a New York State physician since September of 2017 will be considered current. New York State is in the process of developing a health certificate to be on a form prescribed by the Commissioner to provide consistency across the state. In the interim, the Garden City physical form can be found on the District’s and school’s websites. It will be the accepted form for the upcoming 2018-2019 school year.
